Karima S. Khimani, M.D., returned home to San Antonio after her medical education and ophthalmology training. She specializes in advanced cataract surgery, refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, ICL), corneal transplantation (DMEK, DSAEK, PKP, DALK), pterygium excision, and Boston Keratoprosthesis. Dr. Khimani’s practice also includes medical management of dry eye syndrome, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, as well as complex diseases such as ocular surface injuries and corneal dystrophies.
Dr. Khimani is a San Antonian and graduated with summa cum laude from Ronald Reagan high school. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with the highest honors. She earned her Doctor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine where she also completed her internship. Dr. Khimani began ophthalmology residency training at the University of Texas Medical Branch where she was honored to be selected as Chief Resident. During this time, she was also awarded the UTMB leadership award. Following residency, Dr. Khimani completed her cornea and refractive surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. After fellowship, Dr. Khimani made the decision to return to San Antonio and join Ophthalmology Associates of San Antonio.
Dr. Khimani has published and presented numerous research studies, including a translational study at the Ocular Surface Center of the Cullen Eye Institute, investigating inflammatory biomarkers in dry eye syndrome. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Cornea Society.

Dr. Khimani is passionate about providing quality patient-centered care, while staying up to date with the latest surgical techniques and technologies. She enjoys teaching and mentoring medical students and ophthalmology residents.
Dr. Khimani loves spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoys good food and hiking excursions to national parks with her husband. Dr. Khimani is thrilled to be part of OASA and is looking forward to providing comprehensive eye care of excellence to you and your family.
