The retina and vitreous is a subspecialty of ophthalmology concerned with disorders of the back of the eye, many of which may have very serious visual consequences if left untreated.
Some of the more common disorders a retina specialist treats include:
- Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
- Diabetic eye disease
- Trauma and intraocular foreign body
- Retinal detachments
- Vascular diseases of the retina
- Floaters and Flashes
At Ophthalmology Associates of San Antonio, you’ll receive superior care from a fellowship-trained, board certified vitreo-retinal subspecialist. We use the most modern diagnostic and therapeutic equipment available. We provide digital angiography/photography onsite at our Riverwalk offices. In addition, we have retinal optical coherence tomography (OCT), which allows our retina specialist to view your retina as if looking at a cross-section under a microscope. This helps to identify conditions like macular holes.
Ophthalmology Associates also has a full complement of LASER and injection therapies to treat age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and complications of diabetes.
